Candied peel, lime juice, orange juice. Plenty of sweetness and volume and the acid here doesn't seem so piercing. Delicious, but their Graacher Himmelreich is my preferred of their 2018 Spätlesen. (RH)

The 2018 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese is coolish, precise and flinty on the elegant and complex yet always bright and seductive nose that offers lush and precise white stone fruit aromas. Intense and refined on the palate, this is a dense, highly elegant, tightly structured and sustainable Spätlese with a long and stimulatingly salty finish. A fabulous and serious WSU Spätlese. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

The 2018 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese (AP 9 19) opens with a highly attractive, reductive "sponti" nose of white, ripe and lush fruits, such as pears and raisins, crushed (blue) slate, ginger and white floral aromas. Lush, dense and refreshingly piquant and salty on the palate, this is a gorgeously juicy and spicy-mineral Spätlese from one of the Mosel's greatest terroirs known exactly for this clear, straight and refreshingly sensual Spätlese style. The Prüm in the family name of Studert-Prüm is another stylistic hint. This is a terrific Sonnenuhr! There is another, slightly drier fruity Spätlese that carries the AP number 10 19 but which I didn't taste. This wine (AP 9 19) fermented down to 75 grams of residual sugar and 8.5% alcohol. Tasted in July 2019.
