Tasting notes
The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaignots 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of dark berry fruit, desiccated orange peel and a little rooibos. The new oak is quite prominent and feels a bit reduced. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, grippy and muscular, perhaps missing some elegance and transparency. The firm finish leaves a spicy aftertaste. Give this three to four years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaignots 1er Cru has a clean, precise bouquet, a level up in terms of focus and tension over the Les Vignes Rondes. The palate is medium-bodied with filigreed tannins, a superb line of acidity, wonderful tension and a vivid, almost tart finish that is utterly divine.
The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots is showing very well from bottle, unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of red berries, cassis, exotic spices, dark chocolate and rich soil tones, framed by a deft touch of new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and youthfully structured, its concentrated core of fruit framed by an ample chassis of powdery tannin and lively acids. This is one 2017 that will demand a little patience, but its potential is excellent.
