Tasting notes
The complex, elegant 1998 Barbaresco Vigneto Gallina exhibits aromas and flavors of pepper, cedar, black cherries, plums, soy, earth, and new oak. Full-bodied, pure, seamless, and well-balanced, with low acidity, this expressive, beautifully made wine should drink well for 10-12 years. Saturated deep red. Deep but reticent aromas of ripe cherry and spicy oak. Very densely packed but showing less flesh today than Rivetti other '98s. Quite unevolved but already displays a steely core of spice and mint. A powerful, rather musclebound Barbaresco that finishes with superb length and fine, dusty tannins. Rivetti's '98s should be long-lived.
