Score 17.5/20 · Drink 2014-2019, Jancis Robinson MW, Aug 2013

Tinned strawberry hue with plummy shade on rim. The roasted and smoky aromas of toasted French oak are quite pronounced at this early stage, strengthening the already firm grip of a dusty slaty minerality. Some soft red berry fruit softens the initial blow, and an attractive note of smoky bacon adds an intriguing twist to the flavour profile. Power and body support the promise of another fine Grosses Gewächs from the godfather of German Spätburgunder. (MS)
