Tasting notes
The 2016 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has an attractive, perfumed bouquet with red cherries, cranberry and crushed stone aromas, nicely defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, refreshing and mineral-driven for a Charmes-Chambertin with a precise and piquant finish. This is a well crafted wine that should give 20+ years of drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

Big and a little oaky. Very sweet start and not quite enough on the mid palate. Falls away a bit. (JR)
A dark, inviting Burgundy, the 2016 Charmes-Chambertin is all sensuality. Dark red fruit, blood orange, spice and floral notes build as this silky, plush wine shows off its voluptuous personality. Already quite open, the Charmes gives the impression it will drink well with minimal cellaring, although naturally the 2016 is going to need time in bottle to show the full spectrum of aromatic nuances that only develop in bottle. Even so, the Charmes is likely to remain the most approachable for Camille Giroud's 2016s Grand Crus.
