Picked at 240 grams of residual sugar and 16 grams of total acidity, the 2015 Rieslaner Herzog Trockenbeerenauslese has an orange-golden color and is pretty reductive on the nose. This is a linear, straight and focused wine with enormous sweetness and tension. The candy sweetness is not organically intertwined with the mineral freshness but highly aromatic and dense. Tasted in Haardt, December 2019.

Picked with the must weight of 272° Oechsle, the 2015 Rieslaner Trockenbeerenauslese Haardter Herzog 272° is a selection of almost black raisins that just consisted of ripe seeds and shriveled skin, with almost no juice, Winemaker Martin Franzen explains. The bouquet is very clear, aromatic and spicy, but stunningly pure and fresh, with grapefruit flavors. Oily, if not even denser in its viscosity, this is a very rich and concentrated Rieslaner with a great sweetness and concentration, but also a remarkable acidity. It is lush and minty, very sensual, but naturally structured by its acidity and the grip of perfectly ripe seeds. A remarkable wine. 6% alcohol.
