The 1986 Montrachet Grand Cru (Marquis de Laguiche) is a vintage that I have not tasted for four to five years. This has a similar bouquet to the one I recall with wax resin and honeysuckle, though this bottle is a little dustier. The palate is nicely poised with taut acidity. Never a complex Montrachet, it gains vigor with just a few swirls of the glass without ever fully letting go. Very fine, though not remarkable. Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune.

The 1986 Montrachet Grand Cru has what I would describe as an intriguing bouquet that is unusually tertiary in style, presenting scents of wax resin and honeysuckle. The palate displays lovely balance and cohesion, driven by a keen thread of acidity. Where it falls short is in terms of complexity toward the finish, which is not a patch on other vintages that I have tasted. As such, I doubt that it will improve further with additional cellaring. Tasted at La Paulée in Beaune.
