Tasting notes
Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

The 2006 Barolo Rupestris opens with a beautiful ruby hue and delicately ethereal tones of licorice, dark fruit, chopped mint and dried ginger. The Rupestris line famously comes from a small vineyard that was grafted to foreign rootstock some 60 years ago. The wine holds its own with elegant and silky sensations backed by a long, menthol finish. This is a pensive, melodic and profoundly beautiful wine that lasts long on the palate. The polished finish resonates like the last chord of music in a long symphony. Keep the wine ten years at least. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038. Jul 2013, www.robertparker.com

Cappellano

Serralunga d’Alba’s Cappellano is one of Barolo’s most legendary producers, producing ultra-traditional styles of Nebbiolo. Made famous by Teobaldo and now in the hands of his son Augusto, the estate is best known for its Barolo Piè Franco, a wine from ungrafted vines in the Gabutti Cru.
