2009 Chambolle Musigny Vieilles Vignes

The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes is quite a big and rich wine but it is clear the wine is also beginning to shut down. It boasts gorgeous richness and plenty of concentration in a generous, inviting style that needs at least another few years to fully come together. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. I was deeply impressed with Christophe Perrot-Minot’s 2009s. The wines are rich and powerful in the Perrot-Minot style, yet also shine with tons of energy. Good full medium red. Exotic spices, bitter chocolate, tobacco and menthol on the nose. Concentrated, sweet and lush, with good ripe acidity and a slightly meaty impression. Not especially high-pitched but intense and firmly tannic wine with solid grip and a lingering menthol quality.

Aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, violet, mint and licorice. Juicy and vibrant; a step up in intensity from the Gevrey and Morey village wines, with lively acids framing the flavors of blackberry, violet and game. Finishes with juicy lingering black fruits and a smooth dusting of tannins. This is 90% from Les Bussieres, on the Morey side of the appellation.
