Tasting notes
70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. 24 months in French barriques and 18 months in bottle. Unfiltered. Dark garnet. Even though this is a Bordeaux blend, it somehow smells Italian – there’s dark fruit, some cedary notes but also a savoury meaty note. The alcohol shows a little on the nose. Deliciously rich and deep in fruit with clear freshness on the finish. I would have scored it more highly if the alcohol had not seemed so much in evidence. (JH)

The 2011 Geremia, the estate's Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend, offers tons of energy to balance its dark, inky fruit. Lavender, menthol, melted road tar, sage, crème de cassis and grilled herbs are some of the many signatures. The ripeness and raciness of the year come through in spades, yet there is an element of pulsating intensity in the glass that plays off the more overt elements nicely. This is another superb showing from Rocca di Montegrossi.
