The 2017 Chablis is elegant and very nicely lifted. Citrus confit, white flowers and mint add character. Readers will find an especially airy, weightless Chablis that is pure class.

100% Chardonnay. Made from three parcels of vines in different sectors of the appellation – Les Pargues towards the village of Préhy, Les Cartes between the premiers crus of Vaillons and Montmains where the vines are 60 years old and Bas de Chapelots just below Montée de Tonnerre. Oxidative handling of the must was followed by a long, controlled fermentation then extended lees contact. Available from WaitroseCellar.com only. Correct but a bit tight-laced and for the moment rather inexpressive. Could do with a little more intensity. (JR)

Aromas of citrus blossom, fresh peach and green apple introduce the 2017 Chablis Les Grandes Terroirs, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered wine that's fleshy, fragrant and floral, with a lively but open-knit profile. Simon tells me that the usual blend of Les Parges, Chapelot and Les Cartes contains les Chapelot than usual due to the year's frosts.

Much more herbal than the Petit Chablis and a little more woody (not oaky). Tight, crisp and extremely precise. Long, too. (JH)
