Tasting notes
The 2008 Barolo Riserva 10 Anni Fossati Case Nere is superb and also a great example of the year. Effusive in its bouquet, the 2008 is so expressive today, but it is also quite young, its freshness makes abundantly clear. Sweet pipe tobacco, mint, dried cherry, licorice, cloves and menthol bring out darker shades of Nebbiolo that work so well here. The 2008 is a wine of somber beauty and nuance.

Aromas of dried rose petals, violets and black cherries. Some strawberries, too. Full body and round, silky tannins. Chocolate, flowers, and sandalwood. The tannins are just resolving now. A later release after 10 years after the harvest. Fantastic now. But will improve with age.
The 2008 Barolo Riserva Fossati flows from the glass with gorgeous inner perfume. This is one of the more compact wines in the lineup but it comes across as very classic in its bouquet and feel. Hard candy, new leather, iron, spices and licorice wrap around the powerful, insistent finish. The Fossati is impressive, and this is not a vineyard that is among my favorites. To be released in 2018.
