FINE+RARE, Apr 2018

Cognacs of this age and quality are an extraordinarily rare find. We enlisted the expertise of David Baker, an expert in sourcing highly individual, single-estate producers of exceptional cognacs to unearth this hidden gem. He discovered it in a cellar near Saint-Preuil in Grande Champagne - the finest cru of the Cognac region - from where it will be hand-bottled to order.Distilled on a wood-fired, six hectolitre Charentais pot still then transferred to 270 litre old oak casks, this exquisite cognac has spent more than 70 years in wood before being decanted into glass bonbonnes to preserve its fantastic flavour. Pronounced nose of toffee apple, burnt caramel, Seville orange, peaches in syrup, pecan and walnuts, sweet hay and with floral hints. The palate is spicy, still fresh and fruity and so very refined, macerated apricots and peaches, finishing towards chocolate and coffee but with wonderful clarity and mouthfeel. Long finish, incredible complexity and beguiling elegance.
