Tasting notes
Pommard is famous for large-scaled, substantial and robust wines that are at their best with some significant bottle age. Finding well-stored examples with any sort of maturity is, however, difficult to say the least and instantly makes this parcel, with its near two decades of perfect storage in the cellars of the domaine a tremendous find. Our team were excited to taste it and it didn’t disappoint. While the producer is under-the-radar, the quality is excellent and this beautifully mature and utterly delicious red Burgundy. It displays the deep, rich fruit that is the signature of the vintage and combines it with a beguiling complexity that only comes with years of slow ageing. Bright, vibrant colour, still incredibly youthful. Intense nose of dark red, ripe fruit, lovely savoury notes. On the palate the richness of the red fruit that is the hallmark of this vintage shines through. Well balanced with soft, ripe tannins, vibrant acidity and a long finish. Very good.
