This is fabulous wine and the best yet from the two women that make up Drinkward Peschon – Françoise Peschon and Lisa Drinkward. I would consider 2013 as one of the most perfect vintages they have dealt with and both of them have considerable experience. Françoise worked at Araujo for many years, and Lisa is the wife of Les Behrens with experience of many vintages at Behrens & Hitchcock. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Entre Deux Mères (741 cases) is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. An absolutely spectacular bouquet of licorice, forest floor, allspice, blackcurrant and blackberry, a touch of chocolate and subtle oak is followed by a full-bodied wine that is layered, rich and intense. It has incredible equilibrium, superb purity and a finish of close to 45+ seconds. All of this fruit emerges from the Blossom Creek Vineyard north of Calistoga, which sits on the west side in what is considered a relatively cool niche in a warm area. This fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon has at least 30 years of upside aging potential.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Entre Deux Meres, the latest from Lisa Drinkward and Françoise Peschon, is another winner from this dynamic Napa Valley duo. Specifically, the 2013 captures all the intensity and structure of the year, but with enough mid-palate sweetness and overall juiciness to drink well with minimal cellaring. The flavors are dark, bold and incisive - in classic 2013 style - with attractive spice and floral notes that add aromatic presence. Black cherry, blackberry, lavender, clovers and new leather are fused together in a super-expressive, inky Cabernet Sauvignon that hits all the right notes. I loved it.

Tasted from magnum, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon remains very young and almost shockingly rich. Inky dark fruit, crème de cassis, bittersweet chocolate, licorice and gravel race across the palate. Vineyard sources are Blossom Creek (Amoenus) and Criscioni, in equal measure.
