Tasting notes
Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2016

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a subdued nose that feels a little disjointed at the moment, certainly with some reduction issues. The palate is medium-bodied with stringy tannin, chewy in the mouth with a dry finish that feels a little scalped. It seems to deteriorate in the glass and I speculate how representative this bottle is, therefore I will refrain from any score. Tasted September 2016.

Full red-ruby. Sexy, wild aromas of black raspberry and musky underbrush. Plush and fine-grained but also quite lively and light on its feet; conveys superb energizing acidity for such a ripe wine. Finishes with explosive purple fruits, flowers and licorice, with firm, ripe tannins providing support and carrying the fruit. This highly concentrated wine really reverberates on the long finish.

Bright medium red. Enticing, sweet aromas of red berries, red cherry and smoky minerality. At once broad and nicely delineated in the mouth, offering more sweetness and length than the Combottes but less obvious definition at present. Finishes quite dry, tight and very long, with a distinctly airy texture. This grand cru appears to be shut down today but has the reserve to support a leisurely evolution in the cellar.
