Score 93/100 · Drink 2025-2038, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018

Bright ruby-red. Black raspberry, licorice and a strong oak element on the nose. The densest, sweetest and broadest of these 2015s, but with its thickness leavened by terrific energy. The plush flavors of dark raspberry, cherry and oak are lifted and extended by a floral element on the long back end, which features broad, horizontal, fine-grained tannins and lingering sweetness. This wine normally requires extended cellaring but here one is aware of the plushness and sweetness of the 2015 vintage.

(still finishing its secondary fermentation): Bright, dark red-ruby. Aromas of black cherry, pomegranate and licorice are complemented by sweet oak. Holding a good bit of carbonic gas and thus hard to judge, with the wine's oak element also drying its finish. Another barrel was also quite tight and tannic, with the gas still masking the wine's aromas and stirring up the lees. But I'm not convinced that it will match the Damodes for sweetness of fruit. (I preferred the 2014 version of this wine.)

An exuberantly spicy nose displays notes of pepper, violet, sandalwood, plum and Asian-style tea. There is first-rate richness and concentration to the beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that deliver excellent depth and length on the sappy finale. As good as this appears to be, and it appears to be really good, the 2014 is likely to be even better. I would argue for buying both if you can find them! Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
