Saturated dark red. Superripe, slightly high-toned aromas of candied black raspberry and licorice; as at so many other cellars, the first 2015 came across as distinctly roasted following the 2016s. Plush, sweet and superripe--in fact almost porty--with black cherry and bitter chocolate flavors accented by spices. Finishes with big, ripe but somewhat unrefined tannins and a slight warmth. But Loic Dugat notes that this wine is not quite 13.5% alcohol.

(these vines range from 50 to 105 years of age; vinified with 60% whole clusters): Deep red with ruby tones. Inviting aromas of cassis, black cherry, violet, licorice and leather. Shows firm acidity but comes across as more pliant than the Vosne villages , displaying an enticing floral quality and noteworthy inner-mouth lift. Finishes with sexy saline minerality. Loïc Dugat told me he used to find this bottling a bit too masculine but that now it's rounder and silkier. Should make an excellent true-to-type Gevrey villages .

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin "Cuvée Coeur de Roy" contains 70-80% whole bunch fruit with 70% new oak. It has a fresh and vibrant bouquet with quite energetic red and black fruit, good mineralité and tension. The palate is fresh on the entry with firm tannin, more black fruit here coming through with good tension, structured and masculine compared to other growers' village cru towards the dense finish.

50- to 150-year-old vines, 50% whole bunch, 70% new oak. Very opulent nose and then just a little unexpectedly solid on the palate. Could do with a tad more lift and life. Very stolid. (JR)
