Score 16.5/20 · Drink 2018-2024, Jancis Robinson MW, Oct 2019

Since 1986, Domaine de Chevalier has been producing a pair of second wines for earlier drinking. With the same characteristics as the grand vin but more approachable, it's a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Aged for 18 months in barriques (one-third new) with frequent bâtonnage during the first four months. Lively dark garnet colour. The lovely aromatic freshness of Graves with the apparently effortless casualness of Domaine de Chevalier. And half your guests won’t notice it’s not the grand vin… GV (JR)

Even Domaine de Chevalier struggles to make an appealing 2013. Gawky. Drying end. (JR)
