The 2010 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is complex and wonderfully dynamic, just as it was when I first tasted it a few years ago. Hints of truffle, tobacco, spice box, mint and rose petal emerge with a bit of coaxing. Readers who want to start dipping into their bottles can do so, although my impression is that the best is yet to come. Personally, I am thrilled to have a few bottles stashed away.

The 2010 Barolo Vigna Rionda Riserva is a generous and forthcoming wine that presents wave after wave of aromatic intensity. This Riserva is beautifully stitched together with precision and artistry. There is a solid core of black fruit that is surrounded by seamless tones of black cherry, spice, balsam herb and toasted anise seed. The wine is powerful and graceful all at once. The wine should age forward over the next part of the next 20 years.
What a difference a year can make. The 2010 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is one of the greatest wines ever from this small, family-run estate. Perfumed, sensual and totally alluring in the glass, the 2010 Rionda is captivating from the very first taste. The flavors are crystalline and precise throughout. Hints of lavender, violets, hard candy and spices gradually open up, but above all else, the 2010 Rionda is a wine of pure, hauntingly beautiful finesse. Personally, I can't wait to own the 2010 and follow it for the next several decades.
Massolino's 2010 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is a true stand out. Intensely perfumed, sweet and utterly impeccable, the 2010 delivers all of the classic Rionda notes. Violets, crushed rose petals, hard candy and sweet red berries wrap around the palate in a sublime, layered Barolo endowed with stunning finesse and elegance. Delicate and refined throughout, the 2010 impresses for its balance and sheer class. The 2010 might very well be the single best Vigna Rionda the Massolino brothers have ever made. In 2010, the Rionda was bottled earlier than normal. I am not sure if that is part of the reason why the 2010 is such a stand out. I have to go back to 1996 to think of a Massolino Rionda with this level of sheer sexiness and appeal.
