Tasting notes
The 2005 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico is another overachiever in this vintage. Powerful and incisive, the Montefico offers an intriguing combination of depth, tannic grip and overall intensity. Dark cherry, plum, smoke, licorice, menthol and tar wrap around the potent finish. With air, the 2005 can be enjoyed now, but it has enough depth to drink well for a number of years. This is a gorgeous Montefico.

Transparent ruby. Quite haunting aromas in lovely balance. This would make a great introduction to mature Nebbiolo. Dry finish. But lovely complex fruit beforehand. Subtle and layered. (JR)
Good deep red. Sexy aromas of raspberry, cherry, cinnamon, smoke and truffley underbrush. Silky, broad and rich; offers compelling fullness and sweetness for the year. A pronounced spiciness lifts the middle palate. The tannins are strong but refined, and spread out horizontally to coat the palate. An impressive showing.
The 2005 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico is simply beautiful in the way it combines elements of florality and structure, which makes it one of the more complex, multi-faceted wines in 2005. Sweet roses blossom on the palate, followed by succulent ripe raspberries, mint and baking spices. As the wine sits in the glass the layers continue to fill out, revealing a wine of first-class pedigree. This is an exceptional effort from the Produttori!
