Lovely nose that is already showing signs of maturity – with the black fruit comes cedar, beef stock and iron. Chewy tannin, fine balance and good concentration. Loads to enjoy here, but this lady's not for keeping. (RH)

Lovely black fruitcake character and a lick of sweet vanillin. Rounded, smooth and easy drinking, but pretty slim on the palate, and short to finish. (RH)
About the producer

Fonreaud
Situated at the highest point in the Médoc (at a huge 43 metres above sea-level), this estate is thought to be named after a spring on the site, from which Henry II supposedly drank (a “royal fountain”).
