Deep-timbred nose that seems to reverberate like a cello string. Dark notes of damson and polished leather, even a hint of juniper berry, swirl across the palate into the arms of serious but sensuous tannins. Sweet tangy red fruit right at the core, threaded with fine tight acidity. There’s a floral note that seems to float across the top, difficult to pin down, but always there. A bit of black-olive bitterness bites down on the very end, just as the tannins stop being seductive and clamp down quite abruptly. Needs a bit more time in bottle and a good piece of game. (TC)
