Score 17.5/20 · Drink 2014-2020, Jancis Robinson MW, Aug 2013

Medium depth of colour, plum hue with a magenta shade on rim. Roasted coffee, cigar box and a gentle smoky touch reflect the early influence of wood maturation, though the presence of some fine spicy nuances and a juicy morello cherry flavour indicate that there is far more to the Sonnenberg than just oak. The Sonnenberg has always been one of Meyer-Näkel’s more seductive and generous Grosse Gewächse, and I am confident that 2011 will be no exception. (MS)
