Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Feb 2017

Production was down by 30% in this vintage with less than 50,000 bottles produced. A tremendous wine by any measure, the 2013 Cheval Blanc sings with aromas of red cherry, almond flowers, acacia, and pine forest. The structure is coherent, light and Burgundian, with abundant chalky tannins. This seems almost Richebourg-esque. Tremendously well balanced, as the wine opens, the forest fruit aromas continue to unfold, with wild strawberry, and delicate candied violets emerging on the protracted, two-minute-long finish. This beautifully structured wine has all the elements in place for a very long life.

The 2013 Cheval Blanc has an attractive, slightly ferrous nose of light red fruit, loam and white pepper scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very simple for Cheval Blanc, though endowed with a sense of weight and personality. White pepper and clove appear toward the finish. This should be drunk over the next decade. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.

Notably pale, almost ruby. Light, sweet nose. SO laid back! Obviously they decided not to push this wine in the winery and it gives the impression of sort of 'take it or leave it' but it has an amazingly impressive fresh, long finish. Very distinctive. (JR)

Noticeably paler than the 2016 and 2015. Lighter in style with a weak-willed nature in comparison to the greater vintages. Yes, it might be earlier drinking, but it isn't showing the terroir to its best by any means. Suffers by comparison. (RH)
