Score 92/100 · Drink 2019-2030, Neal Martin, Mar 2018
The 2003 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a ripe, intense, quite powerful bouquet of blueberries, violet and kirsch, just a slight warmth of alcohol palpable with aeration although it does seem to calm down with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, sweet 'n sexy with supple and lithe tannins. I am parsimonious with my score because compared to other vintages I feel it reflects more the vintage characteristics rather than the terroir, though it is still a thoroughly enjoyable Grand Cru. Just 622 bottles produced. Tasted at the d'Auvenay dinner in Hong Kong.
