The 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a light and leafy, almost herbaceous bouquet that in my opinion needs more fruit. Et voilà! When poured the same wine an hour later, it begins to manifest some lovely red cherry and cranberry notes. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, slightly savoury in style but without the depth that Frédéric Mugnier imparts into this cuvée these days. Nevertheless, the harmony and precision is beguiling. Do afford it an hour in a decanter. Tasted at Sarah Marsh MW’s 2002 Red Burgundy tasting.

Light ruby. Very pale rim. Quite a vegetal note to this on the nose. Sweet ethereal start. Very delicate and finely embroidered. Really lovely on the palate with its sweetness and harmony. The initial aroma is not quite as wonderful. But then the retronasal passage delivers lots of perfume from the palate. (JR)

Palish color. Aromas of raspberry, smoke, brown spices and menthol. Silky for the vintage, and deeper than the village wine, with strawberry syrup and brown spice flavors supported by underlying stoniness. Clearly longer on the aftertaste.

Powerful floral elements perfume the red berry aromas of the 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuees. Sensual, medium-bodied, and silky-textured, it gracefully dances across the palate releasing elegant red fruit flavors. This feminine wine would a delight to drink right from the barrel. Projected maturity: now-2012. A Becky Wasserman Selection / Le Serbet; French Fax: 011-33-3-80-24-29-70, various American importers
