Score 89-91/100 · Drink 2007, Pierre Rovani, Oct 1999

Crafted from 50-88 year old vines that yielded a paltry 16 h/h, the medium-to-dark ruby/purple-colored 1997 Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur du Roi ("heart of the King" in French) displays cinnamon-infused cream cherry scents. Untold quantities of cassis, black raspberries, and spices are found in its velvety-textured, medium-to-full bodied personality. It has outstanding richness, fat, as well as exquisite ripeness. Drink it over the next 8 years. Importer: Weygandt-Metzler, Peter Weygandt, Unionville, PA; tel(610) 486-0800.

Deep ruby-red. Dark berries, violet, smoke, game, pepper and vanillin oak on the nose. More volume and intensity than the last; more complete owing to healthier acidity. The tannins are quite fine, and there's lovely lingering flavor.
