2010 Ihringer Winklerberg Spatburgunder Grosses Gewachs

Aromas of bonfire and forest vegetation will never fail to excite my olfactory senses, even after a lifetime of wine tasting. On the palate cherries in brandy and smoky bacon may sound like a clash of flavours, but here they are harnessed into a harmonious partnership that takes further strength from a firm but by no means excessive tannin structure. The 2010 seems a little less rugged than previous vintages, probably due to a more judicious use of oak necessitated by the conditions of the vintage. This does not mean that I do not believe in the potential for further development but that it will find its plateau a little earlier than usual. (MS)
