Drink 0-0, David Schildknecht, Vinous

This year there are only two wines from this site, bottled under Müller's Le Gallais estate label. A touch of white raisin in the nose signals the extreme ripeness and noble rot already present this year in a Spatlese. Other than that, the aromas here are strikingly black-fruited: cassis, raspberry, and blue plum. Rich in the mouth but with invigorating acids and the same sappy, salty, tart character as its stablemates, this wine also wears its extract quite obviously. Rather than being glossy or creamy as the level of ripeness might suggest, it is texturally spare and implosively dense. The finish is a wonderful amalgam of dark berries, botrytis smoke and mineral salts. Potential 2 stars.
