Tasting notes
Collezione Privata says the back label. Very special then. It's still deep garnet. Super-ripe fruit with paprika overtones on the glorious tanginess of fully ripe, old-vine Sangiovese. So clean and glorious! So appetising you could glug it without food. But it's essentially a food wine and I'm looking forward to it with tonight's roast chicken. Long and complete. This would make most red bordeaux look effete, I suspect. (JR)

Picked 10-22 October and aged in barriques, 25% new, before being bottled in May 2006. Colour looks quite evolved. Very neat and well balanced, even tidy, on the palate. All the elements are in the right place – not the drama and excess of the 2003, but pure pleasure. Particularly ripe Sangiovese with an edge of dustiness. Super freshness and great energy. Long and neat. Perfect for drinking now? (JR)
About the producer

Castello di Ama is one of the pre-eminent estates in Chianti Classico. Situated in the southern-most district of the appellation, the estate has only been making wine since the late 1970s but has since built a reputation as one of the region’s best.
