Score 17.5/20 · Drink 1989-2012, Jancis Robinson MW, May 2009

Wine has been made on this estate since 1337. A four star vintage, much needed post 76. Wet spring, flowering late June, and a very good fine summer. There was rain and sun in September, but not that much botrytis and the reputation of the vintage has fallen a little over time – though it has shown best in Saar, Ruwer and Nahe . Light golden tawny. Lots of age on the nose, a bit of decay – but lovely fresh fruit on the palate. Sort of macerated raisins in Earl Grey tea. Herby scent and real lift. Great focus and zest. Wonderfully clean on the finish (JR)
