Half-bottle that made it from our old cellar in Belsize Park. Pale, viscous tawny. Very sweet, heady and rich but, despite being made from a grape variety that can be a little low in acidity, and in a half-bottle, this is fresh as a daisy, as well as smoulderingly sumptuous. A real revelation with a certain savouriness and life on the finish. Should go very nicely with tonight's summer pudding. I wonder what it was like when younger? I see that a bottle of the 1976 brought by Alex Hunt MW was very much appreciated in 2012. Difficult to guess when this 1983 started to drink well! (JR)
