Drink 2015, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2015

The 2003 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses, which is 100% whole bunch fruit and matured in 50% new oak, has a very sweet, slightly prune-like nose with raisin and brown sugar, but underneath there is something just a little green. The palate is chewy and very sweet on the entry, fleshy but there is too much volatility on the finish. I did not take to this one bit.

Good medium red. Extroverted nose offers black raspberry and smoked meat; still a hint of reduction. Dense and sweet but more vibrant than the Sentiers. Very concentrated and very long, with the finishing fruit saturating the palate. This is even a bit tight on the back end, a positive sign for the wine's likely evolution in bottle.

Saturated red-ruby. Jammy red berries with exotic orange peel and gingery spices on the nose. Silky, lush and fat; flavors are pure but lack this wine's typical definition. Soft in the mouth and on the aftertaste. Aromatically, this is very 2003 in style, but the finish avoids the tannic dryness of so many wines from this vintage. The yield here was just 19 hectoliters per hectare, according to Serge Groffier.
