Tasting notes
(14.5% alcohol): Full, bright ruby. Blueberry, cassis, kirsch and a hint of smoked meat on the liqueur-like nose, along with a slightly intrusive element of minty greenness. Plush and densely packed on entry, then a bit medicinal in the middle palate, with cassis, licorice and menthol flavors showing a repeating green quality. Finishes with a serious dusting of tannins and cool menthol and herb elements. This may yet harmonize better with a few more years in the cellar.

A beautiful wine, Far Niente’s 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon is elegant, rich, concentrated and pure. A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Merlot, it possesses a saturated purple color, a sweet nose of black currants, licorice, incense and subtle vanilla, medium to full body, significant power and a Pauillac-like cedary, creme de cassis style. It should drink well for two decades or more. Tel. (707) 944-2861; Fax (707) 944-2312
Loaded with blueberry, black fruit, spice, dark chocolate and anise character. Solid backbone, refreshing acidy and with slightly dry tannins, it should emerge from adolescence in great shape. Great integration. (LM) $120
