Vines planted in 1960, 1990, 1995 and 2000. About 50% new oak. Exceptionally youthful looking. Deep purplish crimson. Whereas the nose is extremely developed and smells almost like powdered soup – very savoury, very umami – there is a wonderful spread of violets and quite delicate flavours on the palate. The most discreet of frameworks is in the background. But you could enjoy this wine now too. Very fresh, clean and energetic. Sucky-stone effect on the finish. (JR)

CS Sweet like black-cherry-filled brioche on the nose but with a deliciously savoury, dark-chocolate complexity as it opens up. Very voluptuous yet darkly masculine on the palate. Good depth of fruit and fine, dry tannins. (JH)
