The 2003 Haut-Bergeron feels a little monotone on the nose compared to other vintages: candle wax and dried honey, missing a bit of tension. The palate is well-balanced with a tang of marmalade on the entry and impressive depth, though it fades a bit quickly on the finish. Tasted at a vertical at the château.

Ex-chateau bottle tasted blind in Sauternes. The Haut Bergeron ‘03 has a lighter, more resinous nose than its peers, though I appreciate the fine delineation on offer. It changes a great deal in the glass, a mercurial bouquet that offers scents of marmalade, yellow plum and even strawberry with time. The palate is medium-bodied with clean, pure Clementine, apricot and marmalade notes cut through by crisp acidity. The finish is not complex, but nicely composed and focused and may reward further bottle age. Drink now-2023. Tasted April 2013.
