2002 Serriger Schloss Saarstein Auslese

This is the only non-gold-capsule Auslese here this year, a wine far removed stylistically - but not in terms of raw material - from the dry Spatlese: healthy ripe material from an entire parcel, harvested without selection. Scents of purple plum, white peach and honey. Creamy, polished and poised on the palate, with subtle citrus and tropical suggestions added to the orchard fruits, and with vivid wet-stone slate. Very refined, pure Auslese with a ravishingly fruit-filled finish. 2 stars.
