Score 88/100 · Drink 2014-2019, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jun 2014

The 2004 Volnay 1er Cru Les Taillepieds was tasted from magnum. It has a pleasant bouquet that is slightly herbaceous and tertiary, “green around the gills,” as it were. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasant, slightly fleshy opening, but that green tincture carries on throughout and it feels a little short on the beetroot finish. This falls below my expectations given its performance from barrel several years ago. Drink now-2019.

Cask sample. A slight malic note on the nose. Racy. Very fresh fruit. Leaner than the Champans, but still quite broad and dense and very, very lively. Certainly fresh! (JR)
