The finest of sandalwood aromas combine with the smoke of an exquisite cigar to demonstrate how the masterful use of oak can heighten the enjoyment of a delightful Spätburgunder. The Kaiserstuhl is arguably Germany’s warmest growing region, an advantage most welcome in a challenging vintage such as 2010, and the Heger team managed to muster the maximum substance of fruit possible. Raspberries and blackberries show their mettle and contribute a fine acidity that adds to the elegance of the expertly extracted barrique notes. The wine has excellent structure, and elegance rather than power distinguishes the Schlossberg of 2010. (MS)
