The 2003 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes Grand Cru has a lifted, quite pure bouquet with red cherries, crushed strawberry and mint, light kirsch notes entwined with tinned prune. Good definition. The palate is ripe and candied in style, much more exotic than any other vintage and in that sense it feels more concocted by that infamous hot summer rather than the terroir. This is what underlines my score.

(like the Clos de la Roche, this is aging in 15% new oak) Medium red. Exotic aromas of red cherry, spices, flowers and orange peel. Sweet and juicy, with more lift but less volume than the Clos de la Roche. Ultimately more perfumed in the mouth. Finishes with sweet but firm tannins and excellent length.
