The 1993 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes Grand Cru is fully mature and 32 years old, yet it shows more vitality than, say, the 2001 or 2003. It has a light, slightly leafy bouquet with an autumnal feel, hints of brown spices and mint. The palate is quite savoury on the entry but there is plenty of fruit extant, with lovely notes of tea leaves towards the mellow finish. Delightful.

Star bright ruby. Very fruity nose that was initially less complex than the Dujac Charmes 1993 served alongside. But it opened out to become delightfully sweet, precise and whistle-clean with just a suggestion of the lightest grainy tannins still. Very rich and dense with the merest hint of gaminess. (JR)

The Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes reveals a surprisingly light to medium ruby color, a sweet nose of jammy red and black fruits, medium body, a delicate, understated charm and fruitiness, and a lighter, more user-friendly style than the Clos de la Roche or Mazis-Chambertin. There is no harshness in this easy to drink grand cru. Shouldn't there be more to this wine? Baritone-voiced Charles Rousseau's 1993s are successful for the vintage, and softer than I expected given the inclination for the 1993s to be hard and tannic.
