The 1990 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes Grand Cru translates the warmth of that growing season with aplomb, ever so slightly smudged summer fruit intermixed with warm red bricks and overripe strawberries. The palate is voluptuous in the context of the vineyard in question, but the acidity maintains poise and freshness, upholding its balance. It is exotic in the same vein as the 2003... but this handles that heat better.

The 1990 Ruchottes Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes from Rousseau continues to offer so much pleasure. There is that warmth of the growing season that billows from the glass: sloes and smudged red berry fruit, a touch of warm gravel and yes, even that sweet, heady strawberry shortcake scent that I remarked upon a couple of years ago. The palate is like a buxom aunt giving you a huge big hug: rounded, soft, laden with fruit, but counterbalanced with superb delineation. The acidity is so perfectly judged, offsetting the weight and intensity on the finish. Yes, a gorgeous Ruchottes-Chambertin. If you don't like this, you don't like Burgundy.
