Tasting notes
Mid to deep ruby with orange rim. A little subdued on the nose with hints of undergrowth and cherry creeping up. This would have benefited from decanting. Succulent red fruit with a firm tannic spine and energetic acidity. Complex and so easy to enjoy. Almost burgundian in stature and with beautifully sculpted tannins. Bravo! (WS)

Flowering was delayed by a week due to a protracted winter, but the growing cycle caught up during the first summer months. August proved to be cooler than average, slowing down grape ripening. Rains fell regularly in July, August and September, but October proved virtually dry. Harvest started in the first week of November. Deep concentrated beautiful ruby with very narrow orange rim. Sweet, nutty dried fig and iron and tamarind. Lots of sweet concentration on the palate, but without being heavy. After the 1996 the acidity looks like it is almost absorbed in the sweet fruit and spice palate, but more prominent on the finish. Spicy creamy oak note and this shows some firm tannin, but at the same time it is elegant and long and almost mouthwatering. Young! (WS)
Almost opaque ruby with orange tinges. Malty, smoky and just a hint of oxidation and soft vanilla. Purer on the palate with masses of stalky tannin and brisk acidity. (WS)
