We are delighted to offer two wines from Howard's Folly, the boutique Alentejo producer at the forefront of Portugal's fine wine renaissance.

Howard's Folly was established in 2002 by Yorkshireman Howard Bilton, with the aim of further establishing Alentejo on the fine wine making map. Bilton enlisted the help of Australian winemaker David Baverstock, a long-time resident of Portufal and the head winemaker at world-renowned Herdade do Esporão. Baverstock has won the Portuguese Red Wine Trophy at the International Wine Challenge on two occasions, and in 1999 he became the first non-Portuguese person to win International Wine Challenge's Winemaker of the Year (Portugal).

With such pedigree behind them, the wines of Howard's Folly are undoubtedly ones to watch. We are very pleased to be offering two wines from the HF range...

The 2012 Howard's Folly Reserva (pictured) is a dense, intense wine that seriously impressed our team when we tasted it in the office. Each year Howard’s Folly Reserva – a blend of Syrah and Alicante Bouschet – features labels designed by a world renowned artist. 2012 features abstract artwork from Turner Prize-winning British artist Sir Hodgkin CH CBE. Howard Hodgkin is widely considered to be one of Britain's most important artists and his works sell for vast sums. This special case features six different artworks, one for each of the six bottles, and offers a rare opportunity to effectively own six Howard Hodgkin prints. The six artworks featured on the labels are: Fisherman’s Cove, On the Edge of the Ocean, In a Hot Country, Ellen Smart’s Indian Slide Show, Mr and Mrs James Kirkman and D.H. in Hollywood.

The Edição Limitada 6033 is a blend of three vintages (2010, 2011 and 2012, the sum being 6033) and three grapes (Syrah, Alicante Bouschet and Aragonez) and has been described as "delicious and rich... decadent and opulent" by James Suckling, who gave it 94 points, the highest score he has ever given to an Alentejo. Only 400 magnums were ever produced of this wine and it is impossible to buy in any other format. Sold in cases of three, each magnum comes in its own individual wooden case.
