Felton Road's Pinot Noir Bannockburn is a blockbuster wine that impressed us all when we tasted it recently at F+R. At seven years of age it has really come into its own as an exceptional wine and is well deserving of a place in any cellar.

Felton Road are one of the top producers in Central Otago producer and easily one of the best examples of Pinot Noir available outside of Burgundy. Bannockburn is one of their best vineyards.

According to critic Nick Stock: “If Central Otago was the Côte de Nuits, then Bannockburn would likely be Vosne-Romanée and I’m going to hang it right out and say that Felton Road would be the top gun, the DRC.” (‘Felton Road, The Handsome Prince of New Zealand Pinot’, JamesSuckling.com Sep 2015)

Stephen Tanzer agrees, and called the 2009 Bannockburn as “about as Chambolle-like as any New Zealand pinot I've tasted this year”.

We have to agree: laced with silky tannins, it displays a brilliant ripeness without being oversweet, making it light, elegant option that is a perfect drinking wine for the summer.
