Earlier this year we offered a limited parcel of 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Domaine Saint Préfert. Due to their rapidly growing cult following, these boutique wines sold out almost immediately. However, through our direct relationship with the estate we have managed to secure another limited parcel, this time featuring three red 2014 Châteauneuf-du-Papes and the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc…

Described by Jeb Dunnuck as an impeccably run estate, he and others have highlighted the now certified biodynamic Domaine Saint Préfert as having burst out of being simply “one to watch” to now being a real contender within the appellation:

“Under the guidance of Isabel Ferrando, who burst onto the scene in 2003, Domaine Saint Préfert has leapt into the handful of top estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape… her wines still have sensational levels of fruit, beautiful purity and overflowing Provençal charm.” – Jeb Dunnuck

Sleek, aromatic, modern wines.” – John Livingstone-Learmonth, Drink Rhône

Easily one of my favourite estates, Saint Préfert is run by the talented Isabel Ferrando, who studied winemaking in Gigondas before releasing her first vintage from Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 2003. Since then, it’s been one superb release after another.” – Robert Parker

In terms of the reds John Livingstone-Learmonth said of the Rhône vintage: “2014 emphasises enjoyment, the wines carrying bundles of fruit and mild tannins.” He went on to describe the vintage’s outturn as “entertaining reds… with finesse back on the agenda.” This ‘finesse’ is something that he has especially highlighted at Saint Préfert, which has made a: “move towards more finesse and less opulence… a good thing, as witnessed by good 2014s.” Jeb Dunnuck concurs describing the 2015 Southern Rhônes as “charming, forward and fruit-loaded” in Wine Advocate and noting Châteauneuf-du-Pape as a highlight. We have three of Saint Préfert's red 2014 Châteauneuf-du-Papes to choose from.

Although the 2016 Saint Préfert Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc has not been scored by the critics, Jeb Dunnuck reported that old vines responded well in this hot vintage – a bonus for Saint Préfert who own some vines in excess of 100 years of age – and concluded “Southern Rhône looks to have two superb vintages with the 2015s and 2016s.” Our advice would be not to wait until the scores are published for this wine, as Jeff Leve of The Wine Cellar Insider says, Saint Préfert’s wines are “very hard to find after release.”
