The first-ever En Primeur release from Château Laroque at £220 per 12 bottles in bond. And this is the first year with the incredibly respected and rising star David Suire at the helm, making this wine an intriguing prospect and in Neal Martin's words Château Laroque: "a name to follow in the future."
David Suire made a name for himself through his work with Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt and is the winemaker at Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse and Larcis Ducasse, extremely popular wines that in the 2015 vintage both received scores of 98-99 points from James Suckling and have both now subsequently sold out.
Located in the heart of Saint-Emilion on the limestone plateau that made the region famous, Château Laroque is the largest and probably grandest estate in the area with a history spanning nine centuries and an average vine age of 40 years, but until this vintage the property has remained relatively unknown.
But that is surely set to change with rave critic reviews in response to the sea change in quality:
"Clearly the best wine ever from here.", 94-95 points, James Suckling
"There is a level of depth and overall silkiness in this old-vine Saint-Émilion that is quite appealing. The 2015 is tasty and promising, even at this early stage.", 90-93 points, Antonio Galloni
"New winemaker David Suire (see Pavie-Macquin, Larcis-Ducasse, etc) has clearly had an impact on this Saint Émilion, and delivered a wine commensurate of its grand building. This will be a name to follow in the future.", 90-92 points, Neal Martin
David Suire himself says “Laroque 2015, the first vintage made by the new team, mirrors for us the beauty of the vintage on Saint-Emilion’s limestone soils. Incredibly perfumed and flavoursome. Sheer class, combining brooding potential and elegance.”
With this estate putting itself firmly on the map as one to watch, we recommend not delaying if you wish to secure one of the fifty cases we have on offer.
