Today sees the release of the Margaux Third Growth Chateau Giscours. It is released 22% below the 2018 release price, in line with the incredible reductions we have seen throughout this En Primeur campaign.
Chateau Giscours has been on a steady upward trajectory over the last decade, following the introduction of intra-plot vinification and a substantial replanting program. This has seen Cabernet Sauvignon taking a much more dominant role in the Grand Vin, typically making up over 60% of the blend. Combined with some fantastic gravel terroir providing the wine with a lovely mineral freshness, today Chateau Giscours is making some serious Margaux.
The 2019 has been fantastically received by the critics who have tasted it, with James Suckling awarding it 96-97 points, clearly one of his favourites in the entire Margaux appellation and offering exceptional value.
Deep purple colour, brooding savoury nose, underbrush, saddle leather, mushroom. Expansive tannins, moderate in structure, a touch angular providing structure and freshness. Touch of rusticity, old school profile but tannins ripe and resolved.

"Lots of deep blue fruit with blackberries and grape skins, as well as tar and asphalt. Lead, too. It’s full-bodied, yet very tight with powerful, defined tannins, surrounded by attractive ripe fruit. Serious. Reminds me of the excellent 1975. A blend of 65% cabernet sauvignon and 35% merlot."
