FONDATA Issue One | The Digital Issue

Main content

The inaugural issue of FONDATA, released in 2021, features words from Dylan Jones, Adam Gopnik, Nicholas Foulkes, and more on far-ranging themes such as conviviality in design, traceability in spirits and underappreciated grape varieties.

The idea for FONDATA was conceived at a kitchen table, born from the absence of all the other tables around which the FINE+RARE world – clients and colleagues, our wider family of producers and friends – usually meet. When national lockdowns were imposed, it felt dangerously close to the end of long, thoughtful, funny and serious conversations. We needed a type of self-liberation to recover, the freedom of the essayist and the freedom of adjacency. The type of freedoms we were used to exploring around tables that were sadly empty, no longer places of crumbs, linen or, as restaurateur Danny Meyer might say, someone connecting the dots. We missed everyone and wanted to say so. We slowly put together the best minds to tackle the subjects that possessed us by their absence – experience, space, people and family. It became a journey into the sound of the things that matter to us as collectors, the reasons things exist, the FONDATA.
